Había una vez un anciano y una anciana que vivían juntos en una pequeña granja.

Once upon a time there was an old man and an old woman who lived together on a little farm.

Un día, la anciana quiso hornear una galleta de jengibre con la forma de un hombrecito. Para sus ojos usó uvas pasas, para su nariz una cereza, y una manzana para su sonrisa.

One day, the old woman wanted to bake a gingerbread cookie in the shape of a little man. She used raisins for his eyes, a cherry for his nose, and an apple for his smile.

The old woman and her husband were so excited to eat the Gingerbread Man. He looked so delicious! But as soon as she opened the oven door, the Gingerbread Man jumped out of the oven and ran away as fast as he could. The woman yelled, “Stop! I want to eat you!”

The Gingerbread Man ran by a black and white cow. The cow yelled, “Stop! I want to eat you!”
But the Gingerbread Man sang louder, “Run, run, as fast as you can! You can’t catch me, I’m the Gingerbread man!” Because the black and white cow loved cookies, she joined the pig, the old woman, and the old man and together everyone chased the Gingerbread Man.

Next, the Gingerbread Man met a brown horse. The horse yelled, “Stop! I want to eat you!” and also joined the race. But the Gingerbread Man was too fast for all of them.
Finally, the Gingerbread Man stopped at a river. “Oh no! I can’t swim! The horse, the cow, the pig, the old lady and the old man will catch me and eat me!” he cried. Suddenly, he saw an orange fox hiding in the grass. The sly fox asked, “What is the problem, little man?”
With a sad face, the Gingerbread Man told the fox his problem. The fox said, “I won’t eat you. Climb on my back and I will take you to the other side of the river.” The Gingerbread Man agreed.

The sly fox said, “The water is too deep! Quick! Climb onto my head so you are safe.” The little man was afraid of the water and climbed up quickly.
Then the fox said, “The water is still too deep! Hurry! Climb onto my nose so you are safe.” The little man was even more afraid and climbed onto the foxes nose.”
As soon as they reached the other side of the river, the sly fox flipped the Gingerbread Man into the air, opened his mouth, and ate the Gingerbread Man! And that was the end of the Gingerbread Man, his raisins eyes, cherry nose, and apple smile.
