Era uma vez um velho e uma velha que viviam juntos em uma pequena fazenda.

Once upon a time there was an old man and an old woman who lived together on a little farm.

Um dia, a velha queria assar um biscoito de gengibre em forma de um homemzinho. Ela usou passas para os olhos, uma cereja para o nariz e uma fatia de maçã para o sorriso dele.

One day, the old woman wanted to bake a gingerbread cookie in the shape of a little man. She used raisins for his eyes, a cherry for his nose, and an apple for his smile.

The old woman and her husband were so excited to eat the Gingerbread Man. He looked so delicious! But as soon as she opened the oven door, the Gingerbread Man jumped out of the oven and ran away as fast as he could. The woman yelled, “Stop! I want to eat you!”

The old woman and the old man chased the Gingerbread Man. But he was too fast. He said, “Run, run, as fast as you can! You can’t catch me, I’m the Gingerbread man!”

The Gingerbread Man ran by a hungry pig who yelled, “Stop! I want to eat you!”

Next, the Gingerbread Man met a brown horse. The horse yelled, “Stop! I want to eat you!” and also joined the race. But the Gingerbread Man was too fast for all of them.
Finally, the Gingerbread Man stopped at a river. “Oh no! I can’t swim! The horse, the cow, the pig, the old lady and the old man will catch me and eat me!” he cried. Suddenly, he saw an orange fox hiding in the grass. The sly fox asked, “What is the problem, little man?”
With a sad face, the Gingerbread Man told the fox his problem. The fox said, “I won’t eat you. Climb on my back and I will take you to the other side of the river.” The Gingerbread Man agreed.

As soon as they reached the other side of the river, the sly fox flipped the Gingerbread Man into the air, opened his mouth, and ate the Gingerbread Man! And that was the end of the Gingerbread Man, his raisins eyes, cherry nose, and apple smile.
